Portuguese Resources

About Portuguese Resources

Portuguese Resources started as a personal side project while I was sorting through Portuguese learning material myself. The same problem kept coming up: resources were scattered everywhere, often unorganised, and it was hard to know which ones were actually worth the time. So I built this. One place where the best apps, books, podcasts, YouTube channels, and language schools are reviewed and organised by what they actually do: Brazilian, European, free, paid, beginner, advanced.

Who it's for

Whatever your goal (passing a Portuguese class, talking to family, getting around in Lisbon or São Paulo, or just enjoying the language), there's a path through the catalog that fits.

Beginners

A straightforward starting point for complete beginners. Every entry in the library is suitable for beginners; the guides walk you through the first few steps with concrete picks.

Brazilian or European Portuguese

Each resource is tagged with the region it covers. Browse the Brazilian or European resources directly, or read the dialect guides to figure out which is the better fit for you.

Resource seekers

Explore the full catalog in the library and media pages, with filters for region, format, skills, and cost. The Resource Finder turns a few quick choices into a personal shortlist.

How resources get added

Every resource goes through the same four steps before it gets a page.

Find

New resources come from learner suggestions, teachers, communities like Reddit and Discord groups, and ongoing personal study. Anything promising goes on a shortlist.

Review

Sample lessons, free chapters, episode previews, screenshots, app store reviews, and feedback from other learners. Anything that turns out to be thin, broken, or inaccurate is dropped here.

Write up

Honest pros and cons, region, level, skills, format, cost, and a short summary. No marketing language. No "best ever" superlatives. Just what the resource is actually good for and where it falls short.

Publish and revisit

The resource goes live in the library and shows up in the relevant filters and guides. Pages get revisited when something changes: pricing, content quality, or a dead link from the publisher.

Editorial principles

Not every Portuguese learning resource on the internet belongs in this library. A few simple rules keep the catalog useful instead of overwhelming.

What gets approved

  • Practical for self-study, with a clear use case
  • Still actively maintained or genuinely useful as-is
  • Honest about its level, region, and limitations

What gets rejected

  • Dead links and abandoned projects
  • AI-generated material with no human review
  • Uncredited copies of other people's work
  • "Free" resources that are mostly upsell funnels
